Desperate to escape the mundanity of his day-to-day life as a word processor in uptown NYC, Paul Hackett (Griffin Dunne) ventures downtown after meeting the charming but mysterious Marcy (Rosanna Arquette). 

But when his last $20 bill is whisked out the window of a cab en route to his date, it’s just the start of a night he’ll quickly want to forget, as a series of encounters – from the surreal to the life-threatening – and a colourful collection of characters ensure the only thing he’ll be longing for is the comfort of his Manhattan apartment.
