The perspectives and testimonies of excavators, forensics and survivors not only reveal the step-by-step process of what it takes to bring a body back to a family, but the emotional significance for those who witnessed the genocide a decade ago. The challenges of excavation, and what to do with the bodies found within, is a slow and delicate procedure. Members of the Yezidi community are still waiting for the exhumation and DNA testing of thousands of corpses, in sites scattered throughout the northern regions of the country. The return of these bodies is the first step towards finding closure, and a sense of justice.
