What would you do if your other half was a key suspect in a global espionage plot? Worse still, if you were both spies in the British secret service and you were the one charged with spying on her?
Master storyteller Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's Eleven, Out Of Sight, Logan Lucky) teams up with legendary writer David Koepp (Mission: Impossible, Jurassic Park, Carlito's Way) for this gripping spy thriller, which doesn't let up.
Black Bag follows British intelligence agent George Woodhouse (Michael Fassbender), a spy who can't be lied to, who will relentlessly pursue his targets and is loyal to his country. When a device that could put hundreds of thousands of lives in danger goes missing, George has only seven days to find the traitor who stole it.
When he discovers that his beloved wife and fellow spy Kathryn (Cate Blanchett) is one of the five suspects, George faces the ultimate test: his love for Kathryn or his loyalty to his country.
Fassbender and Blanchett steam up the screen as the spy power couple pitting themselves against one another. They are joined by an incredible supporting cast that make for a thrilling gallery of suspects.
Among them: Marisa Abela (Back To Black and TV's Industry), Regé-Jean Page (TV's Bridgerton) and Tom Burke (Mad Max: Fury Road), plus former 007 himself - Pierce Brosnan and Bond regular Naomie Harris – Miss Moneypenny to Daniel Craig's secret agent – are both along for the ride. It's a dream team that makes for one seriously exhilarating spy caper that demands to be seen on the big screen.
To top it off, the nation's capital is seen in all its stylish glory, as the world of MI6 is put on show, with all the intoxicating trappings that go with it. The stars and their world ooze style, charm…espionage has never looked this good.
Soderbergh is truly bringing all his filmmaking flair to the party. All this makes for a gripping spy game where no one can be trusted. And of course, with all the very best spy thrillers, there's a generous dose of playful banter between suspects that never fails to add to the intrigue.
Whodunnit, and why? You'll need to book a ticket to find out. Ed Gibbs
