Picturehouse Green Screens is delighted to announce a tour with Rave on for The Avon, plus live panels with dir. Charlotte Sawyer and special guests.
Directed, shot and produced by women from the UK, Kenya and Poland, Rave on for The Avon is a documentary film that follows campaigners and river lovers fighting to protect the River Avon across a year and a half, charting their highs, their lows, their love and loss.
Green Screen is a community-led space to discuss environmental issues raised in the films we show. Everyone is welcome to continue the conversation after the film in your cinema's meeting space – enjoy a free tea or filter coffee when you bring a keep cup!
Do humans have the right to nature? In this tender film, director Charlotte Sawyer tells a story of a community of wild swimmers in Bristol (UK) affected by raw sewage pollution of the river Avon. England is one of the only two countries in the world to have a fully privatised water and sewage disposal system, and with only 14% of English rivers in good ecological health, the mission to keep the rivers clean is not going well. In a series of moving, exciting and thought-provoking scenes, the swimmers create a stunning tapestry of light-hearted yet fascinating probe into how activism starts from the grassroots, and carries a profound universal lesson for all of us. There's a marriage to the river, drum'n'base, an inflatable turd, and a whole lot of cheesecake in this poignant reflection on innovative people's fight for the natural world they cherish.
Join us for a nationwide panel tour to accompany screenings of Rave on for The Avon.
The below screenings will have focused discussions in our bars/cafes following the screenings and panel events. Ticketholders who bring their own keep cup to the post-screening discussion will get free tea or filter coffee.
