Life Is Beautiful

A powerful tragi-comic fable about the power of imagination from Roberto Benigni, Italy's great comic actor, LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL has proved to be as controversial as it is popular around Europe.

Set in 1939, the Chaplinesque fable follows the fairytale romance between Guido and Dora whose life in Tuscany is gradually destroyed by fascism and anti-Semetism, as the stark reality of World War Two overcomes them.

Three months before the end of the war they are sent, with their young son, to a concentration camp.

Daring to be funny even amidst the unimaginable horror the film shows how Guido attempts to invent a humorous fantasy world to protect his son from understanding what is happening around him.
