Investigative reporter Hildy Johnson (Rosalind Russell) is a force in the newsroom, one matched only by her conniving but charismatic editor – and ex-husband – Walter Burns (Cary Grant).
When Walter discovers Hildy has gotten engaged to a milquetoast insurance agent, he tries to lure her away from the niceties of domestic life with a red-hot scoop: a story about the impending execution of convicted murderer Earl Williams. But when Hildy discovers Williams may be innocent, her reporter's instincts take over – and her heart comes back into play.
