Despite often being overshadowed by 8 1/2 and La Dolce Vita, the lesser known, Oscar-winning Nights Of Cabiria has long been considered one of Fellini's masterworks.

Bridging the transition between his early neo-realist period and his later more fantastical works, the film is a bitter-sweet and eloquent glimpse into the life and dreams of an eternally optimistic prostitute in Rome.

With an exceptional cast, wonderfully observed detail and a sparkling score by Nino Rota, it provided the inspiration for the musical Sweet Charity.
