Leah (Lily Newmark) is a young, affluent YouTuber with filmmaking aspirations, seeking authenticity on the streets of Brixton with her camera. It’s there that she meets Benji (Ola Orebiyi): handsome, shy, and a resident of the infamous Barrier Block housing project. Despite the different worlds they inhabit, after capturing him through her lens a connection deepens between them – but their relationship with each other, and with the growing gaze of the camera, leads the pair of them down a dangerous path. An ambitious first feature from its directing duo and a showcase for the wealth of young talent in its cast, A Brixton Tale is a love story that highlights the differences and the similarities of lives lived in the city.
A Brixton Tale is presented by MASSIVE, with the five minute short film “Stories in Place: Zionly Manna” by Curtis Essel playing before the film.
