DIRECTOR: Ruben Östlund
WITH: Harris Dickinson, Charlbi Dean, Dolly De Leon, Zlatko Burić, Woody Harrelson
Ruben Östlund serves his second Palme d’Or winning film five years after The Square. With Triangle of Sadness, he turns to other creative industries: fashion and advertisement. What starts off as a hunky catwalk audition soon spirals into the woes of the rich and famous in the film’s hilarious middle part at sea. Hoping to sail away from their couple troubles – jealousy, or how unsexy splitting the bill is – Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean) board a luxurious cruise with their social media capital and tempered hysterics. Östlund never shies away from social criticism but he cares about people enough to make sure his audiences have a good time. This film is no exception: here, you got Woody Harrelson as a captain who likes to booze it up, Nutella being helicoptered in, and golden toilet bowls.
