DIRECTOR: Ang Lee
WITH: Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Alan Rickman, Imogen Stubbs, Hugh Grant
Emma Thompson won the Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award for scripting Ang Lee's rich adaptation of this Jane Austen classic. After enjoying a priviledged upbringing, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood are forced to relocate to a country cottage upon the death of their father. Here, stoic Elinor falls quietly in love with the reserved Edward Ferrars and the fiery Marianne becomes entangled with the caddish John Willoughby. In typical Austen style, the road of love does not run smoothly in this starry period romance. Thompson leads the cast as Elinor, alongside Kate Winslet in her first Oscar nominated role as the passionate Marianne. They are joined by a myriad of British stars including Alan Rickman, Hugh Grant, Imedla Staunton, Greg Wise and many more in this heartwarming tale of love lost and found.
