In post-war '40s Rome, working-class wife Delia (Paola Cortellesi) struggles to make ends meet in a city that continues to grapples with the conflict's aftermath. Rushing between odd jobs and trying to make ends meet, she struggles to balance taking care of the household, her three children, her bedridden father-in-law, and her violent husband. But when a mysterious letter arrives one day, Delia is inspired – and begins to plot an act of rebellion.
