Bored New Jersey housewife Roberta (Rosanna Arquette) fills her days by reading the personals, following an ongoing romance between 'Jim' and 'Susan' (Madonna), mysterious drifters with free-spirited lives.
It's the kind of life she can only dream about – until her dreams become reality. When she shows up at the couple's pre-arranged rendezvous in New York City, a bump on the head and a bout of amnesia leads to Roberta being mistaken for Susan herself.
