We're delighted to welcome director Chloe Zhao to Picturehouse Central for a Q&A following the screening. Part of THIS IS SEARCHLIGHT, our season celebrating 30 years of Searchlight Pictures.

The culture of the ‘nomad’ - van-dwelling citizens displaced in slowly disappearing corners of America - is captured by director Chloe Zhao in her awards-sweeping third feature.

The film follows Fern (a grounded, sincere Frances McDormand) who, after losing her life to the recession, decides to embark on a journey through the American West. On her way, she meets and bonds with many fellow nomads, who teach her important survival skills and help her acclimatise to life on the road.

With first-time performers rounding out an authentic ensemble and a staggeringly shot landscape, this Best Picture winner is a testament to the notion that home can be found just about anywhere.
