‘I walk down my street / to find the soul of the place…’ - Remi Gaves, Portobello’s Soul
What would London be without us, we who are the soul, the style, and the sound of this city?
Who are we without each other?
This programme is a journey across London and across the different streets, scenes, homes and third spaces that we and those who came before us have created.
Part celebration, part rallying cry, these shorts demonstrate the creativity and talent of Black queer people.
In the face of increasing commodification of Black queer culture, growing gentrification and ‘regeneration’ which seek to steal our culture from us while pushing us out, this programme serves as a reminder that we must intentionally carve out spaces (exclusively, when possible) for our community and continue to fight for the people and places we love.
Curated by Waywaad Collective
WAYWAAD is a collective made up of 5 black/mixed black, trans anti-disciplinary artists working across archival, curatorial, performance and visual creative mediums, dedicated to breaking into ‘what might be’.
inspired by Saidiya Hartman’s concept of waywardness, we collectively seek, desire, and remain in pursuit of creating improvised spaces for gathering, learning and playing.
Our spaces prioritise black queer trans folk always.
Join us on this journey of waywardness!
