This is a gathering for queer women predominantly, but is also open to the wider LGBTQ+ community and their guests. We are committed to celebrating our queer community within a co-created ethos of mutual respect and kindness.
Our aim is to provide a queer cinephiles group that stimulates a mix of thoughtful discussion, playfulness, and curiosity. Our screenings will focus predominantly on celebrating queer women – showcasing both celebrated and hidden queer cinema gems, we aim to foster a playful curiosity and build a vibrant, supportive community.
“Excuse me, could the ugly, untalented gays please report to the principles office?”
And there it is – queer humour, Bottoms style. At times weird, campy and frequently twisted. This is what Bottoms exceeds at, in raw unapologetic and unhinged abundance. Audiences are used to seeing queer movies – especially movies about and starring queer women – that are stooped in abject misery, or in which the characters are constantly thinking about their queerness in regards to systematic oppression. But Bottoms is arguably a film for the queer community as opposed to just about them.
Bottoms is a movie about empowering women (the hot ones). Unpopular best friends PJ and Josie find themselves in the spotlight after a rumour about a Summer stint in juvie goes viral. Riding the wave of this newfound notoriety, they start a self-defence club to meet girls and lose their virginity. It’s a rollercoaster from here on in – think juice, jocks and juvie!
