Celebrate 30 years of Harbour Lights with screenings of classic films from our early days
In 1952, Edward Wood Jr. (Johnny Depp) struggles to make it in the film industry. After his film Glen or Glenda is decried one of the worst ever made, Wood refuses to quit and, along with a group of fellow collaborators including horror icon Bela Lugosi (Martin Landau in an Oscar-winning role), does everything he can to bring his visions to the screen.
First shown at Harbour Lights on 4 June 1995, Tim Burton’s biopic on the famed filmmaker of Plan 9 From Outer Space (itself shown as a Harbour Highlight in 2021) is an impassioned and empathetic portrayal of an outsider determined to create art at any cost and remains one of Burton’s most personal and character-driven films.
