Celebrate 30 years of Harbour Lights with screenings of classic films from our early days
After being falsely found guilty of the murder of his wife and her lover, Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is sent to Shawshank State Prison to serve two life sentences. Faced with the brutal conditions of his imprisonment, Dufresne strives to “get busy living or get busy dying”, finding moments of grace and hope in prison life, especially in the life-changing friendship between himself and fellow inmate Red (Morgan Freeman).
First shown at Harbour Lights on 21 April 1995, The Shawshank Redemption went on to quickly become a beloved classic, as seen by its perennial status as the top-voted film on imdb.com. Adapted from a short story by Stephen King, the author ranks it alongside Stand By Me as his favourite of all the film adaptations of his work.
