“Come. It is time to keep your appointment with the Wicker Man.”

Welcome to Harbour Highlights, a series of cult and classic films, handpicked by the staff of Harbour Lights. For the May Day bank holiday, Ruth sends a dinghy to take us to the island of Summerisle for Robin Hardy’s horror classic, The Wicker Man.

Originating from an idea between writer Anthony Schaffer and star Christopher Lee – who was keen to try a type of horror outside of his work in the Hammer films – the resulting film follows a Christian police officer (Edward Woodward) who is summoned to a remote island to investigate the disappearance of a young girl. Met with hostility from the locals, he soon discovers a community of rituals and secrets, led by the enigmatic Lord Summerisle (Lee), leading to a horrible truth and a horrific ritual…

Filled with iconic moments and images that quickly cemented themselves in pop culture history – from Britt Ekland’s dance of temptation to the titular character himself – The Wicker Man’s power remains as potent as it did over fifty years ago. Don’t miss your chance to celebrate the May Bank Holiday by revisiting this British classic on the big screen.

To get you in the May Day mood, there will be a folk music session in our bar from 18:30 (which any folk musicians are welcome to join in with) and a Morris dancing presentation at 19:30 before your appointment with The Wicker Man at 20.00
