Film writer James Clarke hosts informal film discussion clubs untitled Talking ‘Toons at Cinema City Norwich. Each session will be devoted to discussion of a group of animated films.
Session 3: Animation, Myth and FolkTale
Sat 23 May, 2-5pm
£10 per session
The discussion will begin with a focus on Wolfwalkers, The Corpse Bride and Frozen before expanding further into myths and folklore in animation.
Session 4: Pixar Films
Sat 20 Jun, 2-5pm
£10 per session
In this session, James will focus on the films of Pixar Animation Studio, looking at their characters, themes and impact on animation and pop culture.
James is the writer of the book The Films of Pixar Animation Studio.
Session 5: Don Bluth's Animated Movies
Sat 26 Sep, 2-5pm
£10 per session
Animator and director Don Bluth’s feature films are well loved and remembered.
This discussion club session will focus on three Bluth feature films The Secret of NIMH, An American Tail and Anastasia.
James Clarke will introduce the subject with relevant film excerpts followed by a discussion of those clips, and animated movies more widely, in keeping with the theme of the session.
Each session will run for three hours (including breaks).
About the tutor;
James’s writing has been published by 3D World, ImagineFX, Suffolk Norfolk Life, Little White Lies, Empire, and SFX. His books include: The Virgin Film Guide: Animated Films, Bodies in Heroic Motion: The Cinema of James Cameron and Bond: Photographed by Terry O’Neill. In recent years, James has worked as a script reader for the BFI and been BAFTA longlisted as a short-film producer.
