“Feed me, Seymour!”
Welcome to Harbour Highlights, a monthly series of cult and classic film screenings, all handpicked by the staff of Harbour Lights. For September, Marketing Manager Anneka takes us to Mushnik’s Flower Shop – otherwise known as the Little Shop of Horrors – for our first full-blown musical.
Based on the award-winning musical of the same name – itself based off the 1960 Roger Corman B-movie of the same name – Little Shop of Horrors focuses on Seymour (Rick Moranis), a flower-shop worker who attempts to revive the business with a mysterious plant he bought during a solar eclipse. But Seymour soon discovers the plant (which he names Audrey II) not only talks but thrives on human blood – and that he can use the growing fame Audrey II brings to impress the love of his life. It might just take a bit of murder…
Featuring a cast of 80s comedy legends such as Bill Murray, John Candy and a scene-stealing Steve Martin as a sadistic dentist – not to mention Audrey II herself, one of the great movie puppet characters of all time - the film is a wonderful mixture of camp, horror and dark comedy, packed with incredibly catchy songs from legendary songwriter Howard Ashman (Aladdin). Don’t miss your chance to see it on the big screen in its Director’s Cut edition, featuring the original ending!
