"What happened to you? Did you run here?”
Welcome to Harbour Highlights, a series of cult and classic films, all handpicked by the staff of Harbour Lights. For our 60th screening, General Manager Mat celebrates the 25th anniversary of a cult classic – and one with ties to our own history – with Tom Tykwer’s Run Lola Run.
Lola (Franka Potente, in a breakout role) is given a simple task – get hold of 100,000 Deutschmarks and deliver them to her criminal boyfriend’s boss within 20 minutes or else her boyfriend will die. Tykwer takes this simple concept and twists it, giving us different versions of the scenario and outcome, presented in real time, to thrilling and unpredictable effect.
After being forced to close in early 1999, Harbour Lights faced certain doom – until the cinema was bought by and reopened as a Picturehouse on 22 October 1999, with Run Lola Run chosen as one of the first films screening in our victorious return. Come and celebrate a quarter century of both a classic film and your favourite cinema on the anniversary of our re-opening!
