Newcomers to the remote, Pacific Northwest mining town of Presbyterian Church, fast-talking gambler John McCabe (Warren Beatty) and wary prostitute Constance Miller (Julie Christie) decide to partner on a business venture.
With McCabe's confidence and Mrs. Miller's expertise impressing the locals, the two begin to successfully run a brothel. But the arrival of industry threatens to destroy what they've built.
