Join Reclaim The Frame in celebration of Black History Month and Mati Diop's latest film release, DAHOMEY.
From #ReclaimTheFrame alumni Mati Diop (Atlantics), DAHOMEY is a poetic and immersive work of art that delves into real perspectives on far-reaching issues surrounding appropriation, self- determination and restitution. Set in November 2021, the documentary charts 26 royal treasures from the Kingdom of Dahomey that are due to leave Paris and return to their country of origin: the present-day Republic of Benin.
The screening in Liverpool on 25 October will be followed by a conversation with Nasra Elliott, Museums Liverpool and Mara Livemore, House of Sweetwaters, on the subjects explored in the documentary. The screening in Brighton on 26 October will be followed by a creative workshop with local multi-disciplinary artist & Tough Cookie Mag founder, Erin James.
Both screenings are with descriptive subtitles and live captioning provided for the discussion where possible.
