FAUVE (Canada) (16 minutes) Director Jeremy Comte Set in a surface mine, two boys sink into a seemingly innocent power game with Mother Nature as the sole observer. JUDGES’ COMMENTS: “Beautifully understated.” FUN FACT: Oscar nominated THE NEIGHBOR’S WINDOW (USA) (20 minutes) Director Marshall Curry The story of a middle aged woman with small children whose life is shaken up when two free spirited twenty-somethings move in across the street. JUDGES’ COMMENTS: “A completely effortless and accomplished piece of filmmaking.” FUN FACT: Having been nominated for an Oscar three times as a documentary filmmaker, Marshall won the Academy Award with this, his very first foray into fiction. WHITE EYE (Israel) (21 minutes) Director Tomer Shushan A man finds his stolen bicycle and it now belongs to a stranger. In his attempt to retrieve the bicycle, he struggles to remain human. JUDGES’ COMMENTS: “Not many films move me to tears. Just a simple story told flawlessly. Brilliant.” FUN FACT: Oscar nominated BROTHERHOOD (Canada) (25 minutes) Director Meryam Joobeur A hardened shepherd living in rural Tunisia with his wife and two sons is deeply shaken when his oldest son Malik returns home after a long journey with a mysterious new wife. JUDGES’ COMMENTS: “Beautiful. Cinematography like the best photography.” WINNER: Best screenplay FUN FACT: Oscar nominated
