Romeo Must Die is part of ESEA in Action, a celebration of Black x Asian unity and cultural crossover, hosted by MilkTea and Dark Matter, showing as part of Art of Action, a UK-wide film season supported by National Lottery and BFI Film Audience Network.
Romeo Must Die is an action-packed martial arts film where ex-cop Han (Jet Li) seeks revenge for his brother's murder in a turf war between Chinese and African-American crime families in Oakland. Along the way, he forms an unlikely alliance with Trish (Aaliyah), the daughter of the rival gang's leader. As they uncover a deeper conspiracy involving both families, Han and Trish fight for justice and their survival against overwhelming odds.
Our retrospective screening of Romeo Must Die will be followed by a Q+A discussion exploring Black and Asian unity and cross over with Nicole Ocran, Juice Aleem and Kyami. The discussion will be moderated by Micallar Walker, founder of Dark Matter.
After the screening MilkTea and Dark Matter will also be hosting a Filmmaker Talent Mixer for Black and Asian filmmakers. If this is you and you’d like to come, RSVP HERE. Capacity is extremely limited!
